Need an extra boost in the morning?? Not a real breakfast person, well this smoothie will change your mind. Many of us skip the most important meal of the day, breakfast. It actually helps you loose weight to eat a healthy breakfast first thing in the morning. Instead of pouring yourself that cup coffee, why not try a high energy smoothie, then a coffee later on in the morning. You will find yourself feeling more energetic, and actually healthier. This recipe developed by Natural Health by Rochelle Palermo Torres. You may want to use a spoon!

 Recipe

2 cups rolled oats

1 cup chopped almonds

1/3 cup buckwheat groats

1/3 cup wheat germ

3 tablespoons ground flax seeds

2/3 cup honey

3 tablespoons canola oil

1 tablespoons grated orange peel

2 teaspoons almond extract

1/2 cup dried cherries

1/4 cup dried apricots, diced

1/4 cup golden raisins

2 cups goats or cows vanilla yogurt

2 cups frozen blueberries

2 bananas sliced.

 

1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly oil a large, heavy baking sheet. Toss the rolled oats, almonds, buckwheat, groats, wheat germ, and ground flax seeds in a large bowl to blend. Combine the honey, canola oil, and orange peel in a small, heavy saucepan; bring to simmer over medium heat. Remove the honey mixture into the oat mixture, and spread on the prepared baking sheet. Bake until golden brown, stirring occasionally , about 25min. Cool completely. (The mixture will crisp as it cools). Stir the dried cherries, apricots and raisins.

2. Combine the yogurt, berries, and bananas in ta blender until smooth and thick, stopping the machine and stirring occasionally as needed. Divide the yogurt mixture among 4 wide-mouth glasses. Sprinkle 2/3 cup of muesli over each serving and serve immediately. Store remaining muesli in an airtight jar or resealable plastic bag for up to 2 weeks.
