How fair is Fairtrade?

So that is the question here. How fair is Fairtrade? We seem to be hearing a lot about that these days. Yes, we are able to get things cheaper, but how fair is it for the workers on the other side of the world? Are they getting paid what they deserve? I myself am not so sure. The aim of fair trade is clear – to get a better deal for Third World farmers.
