It’s hard to smile when your lips are cracked and sore. Our lips have such a thin layer of skin that is exposed to the winter wind, or the hot sun. They are also made up of mucous membranes that can dry up easily. When you are washing up before bed at night, don’t forget about those thirsty lips, they need special attention just as much as your teeth and face. You need a balm that contains moisturizing oils and wax to protect them from further drying.

Try this delicious do it yourself recipe from Barbara Close, founder of Naturopathica:

1. Place 1/2 ounce almond or olive oil (to moisturize the lips) and 1/2 tablespoon grated beeswax (to protect the lips) in a heatproof glass measuring cup. Set the cup in a shallow pan of simmering water.

 2. Heat until the ingredients have melted, then add 5 drops of vanilla essential oil (for aroma) and 1 tablespoon honey (to soothe skin); stir and blend.

 3. Pour the mixture into a container, and place in the refrigerator to cool. Apply at will.

Its easy and its natural! How groovy is that.
