Keen on Quinoa?

Most of us take a yoga class to find peace and serenity. We all understand how important it is to take time away from our crazy lives, and indulge ourselves in the relaxation of yoga. Just to be able to sit quietly, and listen to our own hearts beating. We gain back our energy, and clear our minds. Our muscles thank us. Why is it then, that when it comes to doing backward bends, we all tend to shy away. These poses open the heart, build courage and stamina. They also give us energy, and give a longer life to our spins.

Backbends are amazing for our bodies but i agree it is not our favourite or most comfortable pose. I think this is for a number of reasons some of which i have listed below:-

*They can be physically challenging on the body as we are a nation of poor posture with slumped bodies and round shoulders. Possibly the result of all the time we spend slumped in front of a computer…we need to re-align our bodies and make our back strong enough to support a good posture.
*Psycologically I think that we feel vulnerable in these type of poses. We are opening our heart (often in front of lots of strangers in a yoga class) and letting it shine out to the whole world! Most of us would be uncomfortable with this hence we feel like we can’t do it before we have even tried. And…what ever you think, whether you can or you can’t you are absolutely right. So, the power of positive thought is important. Believe in yourself and you wil succeed.

Awesome advice! I agree totally. The backbend can ever bring out emotions in many people. At one of my yoga classes, one of the girls even began to cry through it, not from the pain, but from the openness from it. At the end of the practice she felt so good, and so free from many things she was holding inside.

    Namaste!!!!!
